Night shooting at the “Landschaftspark Duisburg” with the GFX100RF
Introduction
The most difficult technical challenge for any kind of digital camera, APSC, full frame or even iPhone is low light photography. To collect light when it´s dark, the size of the single pixel of a sensor is important. The smaller sensor pixel size needs a much higher amplification. Higher amplification is producing more noise. Noise needs to be filtered, and the level of filtering is killing details in the resolution of an image. The huge surface of the medium format sensor even with providing 102 mega pixels, is offering big pixel. In the theory, the Fujifilm GFX100RF must be perfect, even at higher ISO vales, for highest quality night pictures.
Setting
This 3 weekends ago I visited the “Landschaftspark Duisburg” a large historical steel producing factory from Thyssen-Krupp, closed many years ago and got today a lost place charm. This location has been used to produce parts of the “Hunger Games” movies to add a apocalyptical view and atmosphere.
During weekends and bank holidays they have illuminated the location with changing colors which even enhances the apocalyptical feeling. The perfect surrounding for my low-light shooting review.
Let’s face the reality. To be able to analyze the pictures I took, I will add the ISO values in the caption. The photos are all made “out of hand”. All pictures are processed into HEIF format in the camera with no noise reduction and are made with aperture f4.

Conclusion
To my point of view, up to ISO 6400 the noise is minimal almost not visible. At ISO 10000 up to ISO 12800 the noise is rising. The noise is still at a low level as ISO 3200 – ISO 6400 on my Fujifilm X-PRO3. I am already happy with the ISO / noise performance of my X-PRO3. The low light performance of the Fujifilm GFX100RF is outstanding.
