Belgium Street Photography with the 7Artisans AF 25-35-50mm f1.8 Lite lenses

The new AF lens trio 25 – 25 – 50mm f1.8 Lite from 7Artisans is made for travel, street and portrait photography. The Lite in the name stands for low weight, compact design (all three lenses have the same size) and they are still all three made from metal.

7Artisans are known for their robust lens design from many manual lenses for the APS-C sensor size cameras.

If I am traveling or plan longer street shootings I very picky which lenses I take with me. Often, I use 35mm (52.5mm full frame) lenses as a single lens for such trips, but then I am missing sometimes a wider or light tele lens for landscape or portrait shooting situations.

Those three compact and light weight lenses, still with a large opening of f1.8, are inviting to take all three lenses on a trip. I had planned a longer weekend in Belgium a county I have been working and living for 15 years, and my two daughters are born in. First, I visited for 3 days Ghent in Vlaanderen and then for one day Blankenberghe at the coast of Oost Vlaanderen. I had warm sunshine, rain and even some foggy weather.

I decided to use for these pictures a variation of Acros +Red simulation +1 lights and +2 shadows and ISO 320 to 1600 with Dynamic Level 2. This recipe reminds me more to a classical NEOPAN 400 film, which I like a lot.

The high performance of all three lenses is very close. Neutral realistic colors and also the black and white contrast is very similar. The lens with the most character is to me the 7Artisans AF 50mm f1.8 Lite. It´s rendering extreme three dimensional. Shooting street portraits is such a fun with this compact lens. The people in the crowed are reproduced in different layers and it´s easy with front and background bokeh to guide the eye of the observer to the persons in focus.

Typically traveling with only one lens, I am surprised how great the photographical possibilities are, to choose between 25 – 35 or even 50mm focal length. Still the photo bag has been very small and lightweight. Only the build quality and IQ of those 7Artisans lenses is not at all Lite.
