NEOPAN 400 Simulation with 7Artisans AF 27mm f2.8 and Fujifilm X-E5

The new Fujifilm X-E5, providing a resolution of 40 MPixel on APS-C and is supporting the 10 bit Apple HEIF file format, is the perfect tool to test the latest generation of 7Artisans autofocus lenses. Even Fujifilm themselves offered with the introduction of the first 40 MPixel camera, the Fujifilm X-T5, a range of new “high resolution” lenses e.g. the Fujinon XF 33mm f1.4 R WR. On this background, I am very curious what will be the performance of the 7Artisans AF lenses. Can they match the high needs of the new sensor.

To start my series of testing I have chosen a very compact AF lens the 27mm f2.8 of 7Artisans. 27mm is a perfect focal length in between the classical 33-35mm and wider 23-25mm.

I made a relaxing walk at the DeWitt See. A lake that is used for riding kayaks and canoe. The lake is surrounded by wonderful nature and offers a lot of sea plants due to the warm weather. On the lake and close by a lot of animals and birds have found their home. The combination of modern water sport and lost place atmosphere back to the nature is making this area so unique.

To test the resolution of the lens, I decided to shoot in black and white. I am a big fan of ACROS +R but the new Fujifilm X-E5 is offering a film simulation dial that allows to choose easy and quick 3 self-defined simulations. I have been experimenting with a traditional film named Fujifilm NEOPAN 400 that offers a bigger contrast than ACROS and still boosts the resolution a lot.

I am impressed of the details one can see in the trees, gras and other vegetation at the lake. The details in the leaves of the trees, the reflection in the water and it’s motivating to start to search for hidden birds and animals that have their living space at this lake.

It is so obvious, the compact 7Artisans AF 27mm f2.8 is a perfect match to the new 40 MP sensor of Fujifilm. A lens that offers the performance to be the right always on lens for most photographical situations e.g street, documentary and even nature.

Please share with me your impression of the images.
