Christmas Market in Düsseldorf seen through the 7Artisans 50mm f1.2 lens
Introduction
Düsseldorf has so many Christmas Markets. Many are in the different suburbs, most are in the center lining up from the Schauspielhaus, Gustaf Grüngens Platz, Schadow Platz, Kö-Bogen 1 and 2, along most roads of the Alt Stadt, in front of the City Hall, Burgplatz and along the Rhein Ufer Promenade.
It´s a time to be with family and friends. You enjoy some Glühwein (Hot Wine), finger food and caramelized nuts. At those many Christmas Markets you can find also many small shops of hand made clothes, toys, spices, care products and other seasonal items you can shop to surprise your beloved ones.
Focal length
It´s also a kind of moments of intimacy. If you want to shoot situations, scenes and people a longer focal length to keep distance is a great advantage. The 7Artisans 50mm f1.2 translated to full frame equals 75mm focal length, is offering exactly this extra space to the people that you do not confuse or even irritate them.
Bokeh
Additional to that distance is the wide opening of this lens f1.2 offering the possibility to separate things from the background by choosing selected narrowed field of depth. The lens is producing a creamy un sharpness in the background or even foreground. This smooth bokeh is produced by the 11 blades of the diaphragm. Typically, such lenses are made with 5 to max 9 blades. Those extra blades guarantee a real round opening which is so important for such a perfect bokeh.
Manual Focus
You might get bored by my repetition, but it is so much fun to focus this lens. The damped movement is perfect. Every one that has been “born” into the photography area of autofocus and has no idea or experience with manual focusing, MUST give it a try. Those people must leave their comfort zone, and I promise them, after 3-4 shootings they will feel well and might understand my enthusiasm for manual focusing, a slowing down and much more intense style of photography. I name it my mission to convince more photographer to at least try manual lenses.
Please don´t get me wrong. There are situations where modern autofocus systems are the best choice. One typical example is sports photography with fast movements of people.
