Last night, after a wonderful dinner at one of our favorite Indian restaurants Swades in Neuss, an impressive blue hour painted the center of Neuss in colors that touched the soul and created a holiday kind of feeling. These kind of blue nights you will typically only experience in the Mediterranean region like in Italy, Spain or South of France. The typical problem in Photography is how to port this rich symphony of blue to rose colors into your Photo.

If you just leave your camera to automatic mode it will compensate the dimmed light to nearly day light and and the atmosphere is killed. In 99% of the cases I am setting manual the aperture to decide the level of DOF and leave the correct timing to the automatic mode of the camera. To reflect still using the automatic mode of the camera I use an exposure compensation of -1. This compensation preserves the nature of the blue hour. All pictures are SOOC made with Velvia – Fujichrome.

All this, I tried with the new 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 APSC on my Fujifilm X-PRO3 Black. This lens is my new always on lens. In combination with my Fujifilm X-PRO3 Black it’s the perfect street photography combination. It is compact, light weight and does not create too much attention as a DSLR style camera where people jump into unnatural posing expecting the press to be around. With an aperture of f1.4 fast enough for most situations including a wonderful bokeh. The IQ is at a high level even at f1.4. All in all, including the high build quality and haptic of of focus and aperture ring this is the perfect universal lens for every day.
