Yes, it is a huge lens. 11 lenses in 9 groups are asking for space but this lens from 7Artisans is a high end well corrected wide open 25mm f0.95 lens. And yes, the metal lens hood is adding to the length of the lens and makes it look even more bulky. The filter diameter is Ø52. I tried to use my most loved Ø52 diameter vented metal lens hood from the 7Artisans 35mm f0.95. Unfortunately this hood is producing vignettes at the corners. Therefore I ordered a wide angle metal hood. Yes it looks also huge but it is working fine, as you can see on the images in the following picture gallery. I am surprised how many pros are using lenses without a lens hood on TV. In many tests I have found out for myself, that images made with lens equipped with lens hood are having better color rendering as well contrast. Preventing stray light entering the optical system is the solution to better images. I suggest you make your own tests.
Overall, after shooting with the 7Artisans 25mm f0.95 lens which is not only opened very wide but it is also providing highest IQ. Well done 7Artisans, thanks a lot providing us with such an extraordinary lens for a budget price. The purchase of this lens is to me an absolutely no brainer.
Great shots! Would you happen to know how much this lens weighs, and does it make it uncomfortable to have mounted on a smaller Fuji camera?
Hi Jonathan,
Thanks a lot that you like the blog.
The new 7Artisans 25mm f0.95 has a weight of 588g with out lens hood, lens- and mount- cap. I have used it on the Fujifilm X-T4, X-PRO2 and X-PRO3. It is heavy but on those camera bodies still comfortable to handle. On smaller bodies the lens will be very dominant. Still it is smaller and lighter then the Fujinon XF 50mm f1 (845g) or Fujinon XF 16-55 f2.8 (655g).
Greetings,
Malte
any word for ef or eosm mount?
The 7Artisans 25mm f0.95 will be available with the following mounts: E, Z, FX, EOS-M, M43.
Is it a huge difference between the 25mm 1.8 7 artisan released? I find this so bulky and heavy in comparison..what do you think?
Well, yes. The Firefly 7Artisans 25mm f0.95 is big, long and heavy but OMG it is a f0.95 lens. Bokeh, selective focus and low light shooting makes this a very special lens for unforgettable shooting situations.
As an always on lens forget it. The 7Artisans 25mm f1.8 is much better for that usage. My preferred always on lens is the new 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 APSC. Great IQ and some step back and you have the same shooting angel at the 25mm. Get a bit closer and you get the cut out of an 50mm lens… universal.
