Presentation “Japan Street Photography” at the Fujifilm X-DEN in Düsseldorf
Fujifilm has created a home to all Fujifilm Photographers in the center of the old town of Düsseldorf. A show room to test Fujifilm cameras and lenses. To discuss technique and art with other people. To listen to workshops of experts and practice hands on with the equipment. Also, famous Fujifilm Photographers, e.g. Nina Papiorek, are presenting from time to time their art and are talking about insights.
Once a month, on a Wednesday evening, Fujifilm is holding a community evening where we hobby photographer get the opportunity to present our photo art and learn from the feedback of the experts.
Last week Wednesday I got the opportunity to give a presentation with the title “Japan Street Photography”
In the past 11 years I have been working for one of the biggest multinational companies from Japan. During my business trips, I have been using free time in the evening and sometimes during weekend, when I arrive early Sunday morning or fly back on a Saturday, to live my hobby, Street Photography.
The first pictures I presented that evening, have been from December 2019 in Tokyo. My start into the Fujifilm Photography with the Fujifilm X-PRO2 and Fujinon XF 23mm f2 WR.
In 2020-21 due to the Covid period, even business travel to Japan has not been possible.
In June 2022, Japan opened their doors again for business visitors with dedicated visa. People have been wearing masks in doors but also on the street. A very special atmosphere I tried to capture with my Fujifilm X-PRO3 and 7Artisans 25mm f1.8 lens. During this trip I have been in Tokyo and traveled with the Shinkansen to Kobe.
During the next trip end of July 2022, I caught my first Covid infection in Japan and had to stay for 10 days in quarantine in my tiny hotel room. I was allowed to leave the room for 30 minutes a day, to buy my food (sandwiches, green tee, high ball) for 24h in the 7Eleven and FamilyMart in the neighborhood. During these short walks every day, I shoot many pictures with my Fujifilm X-PRO3 and several AF and Manual lenses.
The last set of pictures I presented have been shot during a trip in November 2022. I visited with a customer the Asakusa Temple and Sensoji Shrine. Impressed by the wonderful surrounding and people, I came back 2 days later in a free Saturday and shoot a full day Street Portraits.
I have finished my presentation by showing in pictures and video the X-DEN visitors my favorite food in Japan: “Japanese at the table handmade potato salad.”
Based on the questions and feed-back I received afterwards, the people liked what I had to show them. I can at least say, I had a lot of fun sharing my story with the audience. Thanks a lot, to Fujifilm for this opportunity.

Some impressions of that evening.
