Last week I enjoyed the sun and I took some pictures of the purpur sun hat. A purpur sun hat is a wonderful target to test the resolution and color dynamics of a macro lens. The surface of the flower is such a rich and exiting micro cosmos. Wonderful details in form and structure painted in multiple colors. It is a world on it’s own. I can look for hours to that pictures and still I discover new things and details.

While I took that pictures I suddenly noticed a new visitor at “my” flower. Paul the fly joined me on my discovery journey.

I had to find out how short or long his escape distance would be. Some people are telling me that insect are asking for long focal length, 135mm plus on FF. The new 7Artisans 60mm f2.8 macro MKII has on my APSC Fujifilm X-PRO2 a focal length of only 90mm. Is this lens too short to shoot closeups of insects?

Perhaps is my new friend a reincarnation of a Instagram “Influencer”/“Content Creator” and loves to act in front of the lens of a camera. I was able to shoot a series of pictures up to the ratio of 1:1 without to activate his escape reflex.

Thank you Paul! This is the proof that 90mm is a perfect focal length to shoot insect “pinups”…
